Turnip Casserole for Picky Eaters

Even picky eaters will love turnip done this way! The apple sauce flavour really comes through!

Ingredients:
1 Large turnip
28 oz can Apple sauce (You may not need this much, depends on how big your turnip is)
1 tbsp Margarine
¼ cup Brown sugar
Pinch Cinnamon

Topping
1/3 cup Flour
1/3 cup Brown sugar
2 tbsp Margarine

Preheat oven to 350F. Peel and dice turnip. Cook until soft; drain and mash with margarine. Mix mashed turnip and applesauce together. Add brown sugar and cinnamon. Put mixture into a 2-quart casserole dish. Mix topping ingredients in a bowl. Sprinkle topping over casserole. Bake for 1 hour.

  2. Do you have any tips for peeling and chopping the turnip? Those things are tough! I love turnip but make it so seldom 'cause its just too much work.

  3. I use my potato peeler to peel it. :) They're not easy to prep but at least turnips are fairly big and can feed a crowd. I guess you could try using frozen turnip instead of the fresh ... I'd worry about too much liquid though.
