Phew! I still have just over an hour to get my Whatcha Reading? Wednesday post in!! Soooo, what books have kept you up at night because you just couldn't put them down? Have you heard of any other great reads you'd like to share?
I've had a good week. I finished "Mistress of Rome" by Kate Quinn as well as the fourth book in the Mary O'Reilly paranormal mystery series by Terri Reid called "Final Call" (which I really enjoyed and will post a review soon). Let's just say that "Final Call" was so good that I read it in less than a day. I was up until 2am finishing it!! A great ebook series!
Currently I'm reading "The Girl in the Garden" by Kamala Nair. She had me hooked from the get go! I'm about 60 pages into it and I really love the pace of the book, the mystery involved as well as the author's voice. It feels very similar to Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda (and not just due to the fact that they both deal with women in Indian culture).
Next? I'm going to read "Before I Go To Sleep" by S.J Watson. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about this book so I'm really looking forward to it.
I've just discovered your blog and love it! My two favorite things to do are reading books and cooking (and eating) food. I have just read the 1st two books of the Mary O'Reilly mystery series and really enjoyed them. Now, I can't wait to get to the 4th book. I'm also looking forward to reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteI just finished the book "The Story of Beautiful Girl" by Rachel Simon. It's a book written about a time when people with disabilities were kept "out of sight, out of mind" in institutions. The ending was a tad treacly but I still loved it. Now I'm reading "Lunch in Paris: A Love Story, with Recipes" by Elizabeth Bard.
ReplyDeleteOh, and with regards to your question about whether you should read Earlene Fowler's Benni Harper series in order: Yes. I would highly recommend it. You will enjoy them more if you do as there is a great deal of character development in the books, plus Benni and Gabe's relationship is always evolving.
I am reading Sister's Row a Sarah Brandt mystery number 13.Set in nineteenth century New York she is a midwife who seems to be solving mysteries as much as she brings babies into the world.
ReplyDeleteChristine -- I'm so happy you've found (and enjoy) my blog! I love getting feedback and knowing that people are getting some use out of it. I'm also happy to hear that there's another Terri Reid fan!!
ReplyDeleteBeth & CoffeeChick -- I'll definitely put the Benni Harper series and the Sarah Brandt series on my 'gotta read list'. I need some new mystery series to dive into. Thanks for the heads up!
CoffeeChick -- I'll
I definitely need to add the Mary O'Reilly series to my To Be Read List. It sounds right up my alley! I just finished the second book in the Game of Thrones series and promptly moved on to the third. I just can't get enough of this series!
ReplyDeleteApril - I'm sure you'll like the Mary O'Reilly series. I've written up a rough draft of the fourth book, "Final Call", and should be posting it tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to pick up the first book in that Game of Thrones. You have me intrigued!
