Bitten

My first book post! Some of my friends get immense pleasure in teasing me about how I keep track of all of the books that I read. I'm an avid reader ... so much so that it's hard to keep track in my head all of the books I've read. So I keep an Excel spreadsheet of all the books I read, what I think about them etc. A little OCD? Maybe ... but it works. Especially when I get friends asking for book recommendations. :)

Although I read this book several years ago I had to post about it. The book is called "Bitten" by Canadian author Kelley Armstrong. Before I had read "Bitten" (the first book in "The Women of the Underworld" series) I never would have thought I'd like supernatural books (Harry Potter excluded, of course!). Werewolves? Necromancers? Demons? Totally not 'my thang' ... until I found "Bitten".

Synopsis: The main character is Elena Michaels who is a self-described "mutt," (a werewolf who left her Pack in upstate New York for a life among humans). In the year since she relocated to Toronto, she's started a 'normal' life with a career as a journalist and has begun a pleasing but mundane relationship with a decent man. All this is jeopardized when she agrees to help her old packmates hunt some troublesome mutts who are converting common criminals to werewolves and leaving a trail of conspicuous carnage. Reunited with her former werewolf lover, Clay, and forced into brutally predatory confrontations, Elena finds the call of the wild subtly reasserting itself.

My thoughts: This book is filled with romance and supernatural intrigue and it is hard to put this book down. Armstrong has the ability (aka J.K. Rowling) to make having supernaturals living among us even seem plausible. The writing is good, the main character is a strong female (unlike some authors like "Twilight"'s Stephenie Meyer) and there's lots of action.

My rating: 4.5/5 (aka "an awesome read").
