Her Final Confession

The Detective Josie Quinn series is a mix of police procedural and suspense with a strong focus on the relationships and development of its characters.
Her Final Confession, the fourth book in the series (which I recommend reading in order), sheds light on Gretchen Palmer, a Denton police officer and coworker of Quinn's with a private side and a mysterious past who finds herself as the prime suspect in a murder.

Despite her new police chief wanting to close the case quickly, Josie firmly believes that Gretchen isn't the culprit and does all she can to get to the bottom of things. Though more of a slow burn, the bodies soon pile up, there's good tension, a bit of romance and the addition of characters' backstories was a highlight for me.

Towards the end, I needed to suspend disbelief and struggled a bit to understand how everything fit together (which could be blamed on me reading in fits and spurts while on holiday) but I enjoyed the twisty ride. The ending comes fast and furious (if a bit rushed), but this is a good addition to this popular series. I already own books 5 and 6 so it's clear that I'm eager to see where Regan takes this series and its characters in future books.

Book Description from GoodReadsWatching her friend dragged away in handcuffs, Josie couldn't believe for one second that Gretchen had killed that poor boy. Confession or not, someone else was involved. She would find out who…

When the body of a young student is found on the driveway of a local Denton home, a photograph pinned to his collar, Detective Josie Quinn is first on the scene. The house belongs to Gretchen Palmera dedicated member of Josie’s team, missing for the last twenty-four hours.

Working around the clock, Josie is stopped in her tracks when Gretchen hands herself in to the police. She knows that there’s no way Gretchen could ever be a killer, so why would she confess to a murder she didn’t commit?

Digging deep into Gretchen’s secretive life, Josie uncovers a link between the boy, the photograph and a devastating case in Gretchen’s past. But just when Josie thinks she has it all figured out, the bodies of a young couple surface on the other side of town. Can Josie get to the truth in time to save her friend from a life in prison or certain death?
