I thought I'd quickly jot down what I've been reading this past week. Today has been one of those hectic 'can't remember if I even sat down' kind of days. A day filled with baking (Black Forest Brownies!!! Recipe to be posted later this week!), house cleaning, swimming with 9 kids and two other moms plus hosting a birthday party for Brad and 10 year old Karate Guy. I am pooped!With all this going on I thought I'd finally sit down and write up my "Whatcha Reading?' Wednesday post! This week has been a slow reading week for me. I finished "One Deadly Sin" by Annie Solomon (review will be posted tomorrow) and I'm just over half way through "Opal Fire" (the first book in the Stacy Justice supernatural mystery series). So far, so good with "Opal Fire". It's a light mystery but it doesn't have as much supernatural element as I was expecting ... especially when the main character is a witch.
Next? "ROOM" by Emma Donoghue. I've been putting off this book long enough. I'm not the last person on the planet to read this book (but close!). After that, I picked up a book called "Mistress of Rome" by Kate Quinn that I saw at the library. Sounds like an amazing read! I haven't read a great ancient historical fiction read in quite awhile. Not sure why since I adore that era!!
So.... what has everyone been reading this week? Did ya love it? Was it not for you? What are you reading next?? Have you heard any buzz on other books that you'd like to share??
I haven't read ROOM either. In fact...I'm embarrassed to say that I know nothing about it beyond what I read in last week's comments. Yes, I guess I do live under a rock! LOL I am still reading The Land of the Painted Caves by Jean M. Auel. It's a long book and I've only made it about 2/3 of the way through in the past week. Next on my list is A Turn in the Road by Debbie Macomber.

ReplyDeleteNot the only one who hasn't! I can't bring myself to read it, as amazing the reviews are for it. May be if I didn't work with kids that age, or you know, had a heart! Just kidding! Ihave heard of more people putting the book down after starting it than I have of people actually finishing it. Sorry Laurie! I am finishing up an Elm Creek series book called the Union Quilters by Jennifer Chiaverini and starting Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley. Union Quilters is a historical fiction about the Civil War and the women who support the soldiers. Sweetness is about a little girl in Britain who is fascinated with poisons, it's an unusual mystery. I am hoping it is better than it sounds!

ReplyDeleteI am reading The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. I borrowed it from a friend because I found out that they were delaying the paperback version because of all the hype. Ah the power of Hollywood!! I can't bring myself to pay hardcover prices, when I know I will only read it once. I'm looking forward to a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy.
Aleisha - I've heard of "Sweetness in the Bottom of the Pie" but had no idea that was the subject matter!! Let me know what you think of it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why I'm putting off reading ROOM. I think it's because its the subject matter involved. It sounds so similar to the Jaycee Dugard case. :(
Kym - I need to read the second book in the Millenium series still. I enjoyed the first book but was surprised at how violent it was! It was good but creeped me out a bit at the end. :s
I have read Room and loved it. l sat through a cold winter afternoon with my coffee,turning pages like mad.I have Jaycee Dugard's memoir A Stolen Life waiting to be started tonight.Not going to be a east read.
ReplyDeleteAnon -- I have finally, and officially, started to read ROOM. I'm on page 28. The inner thoughts of a 5 year old and the extensive descriptions of their room is getting to me a bit but I'm intrigued to see where the author takes the story.

I love this idea for a weekly post! I'm reading Forever, the last book in a series about werewolves by Maggie Stiefvater. It's good, but no where near as good as her first two so I'm a bit disappointed. :( Anywho, I haven't read ROOM either and that's been on my list for a quite a while. Next up is Sarah's Key. Thanks for the book recommendations, I'm going to add them to my list on goodreads! :)
