The Bromance Book Club

After a couple of heavier, 'just okay' kind of reads, I needed a book to cleanse my palate. I was looking for something light and fun, with some humour thrown in for good measure. The Bromance Book Club fit the bill (or ball glove, in this case) and caught my attention because of its unusual male perspective which isn't the standard POV in the popular Rom Com genre.

Gavin, a professional baseball player, and his wife Thea's marriage is in trouble. To save his marriage and keep his small family together, Gavin's teammates invite him into their top-secret book club where they read 'bodice ripper' romances to help them better understand and woo the women in their lives.

This is an amusing story with some steamy situations, cute dad scenes and humour added by Gavin's teammates who are a, well …. they're a unique bunch of guys. I enjoyed the added depth that was given to the main characters and appreciated getting a look at their back stories which helped me understand why Thea and Gavin's relationship was suffering. I also liked how the book focused on fixing a marriage instead of a typical 'getting the girl/boy' kind of read. The Bromance Book Club is fairly predictable and a little cheesy at times, but it was a fun and enjoyable read and just what I needed.

If you're looking for a romantic read that steps out of the traditional Rom Com genre a little to give readers a different perspective on relationships, you'll want to give The Bromance Book Club a try.

Book Description from GoodReads: The first rule of book club: You don't talk about book club.

Nashville Legends second baseman Gavin Scott's marriage is in major league trouble. He’s recently discovered a humiliating secret: his wife Thea has always faked the Big O. When he loses his cool at the revelation, it’s the final straw on their already strained relationship. Thea asks for a divorce, and Gavin realizes he’s let his pride and fear get the better of him.

Welcome to the Bromance Book Club.

Distraught and desperate, Gavin finds help from an unlikely source: a secret romance book club made up of Nashville's top alpha men. With the help of their current read, a steamy Regency titled Courting the Countess, the guys coach Gavin on saving his marriage. But it'll take a lot more than flowery words and grand gestures for this hapless Romeo to find his inner hero and win back the trust of his wife.
