My Sister's Grave - eAudiobook

Way back in 2015, I first read My Sister's Grave as a Trade Paperback. It was the first book I had ever read by Robert Dugoni and he has since become one of my favourite authors. From the amount I read, if an author can still take me by surprise with awesome twists and make me miss his characters, that's an author who has me as a big 'ol fan. This time out I listened to the digital audiobook which was narrated by Emily Sutton-Smith. She did a good job but I wouldn't say she's one of my favourite narrators.

This is the first book in the popular Tracy Crosswhite series. This book (and series in general) is a great combination of crime fiction, police procedural with a bit of legal thriller thrown in for good measure. The plot is detailed enough without being convoluted and it's got a fantastically twisty ending.

But it's Tracy who makes this series for me. She a strong no nonsense cop with a good blend of emotional baggage, dogged persistence and is a protagonist readers will easily root for. Readers are also see her softer side as they become privy to some touching scenes between Tracy and Sarah which give the book a more personal feel than I was expecting.

I highly recommend this series. It's well-written, compelling that builds tension to keep readers invested in Tracy's loss and conviction to find her sister's killer.

Opening Lines: Her tactical instructor at the police academy had liked taunting them during early morning drills. "Sleep is overrated," he'd say. "You will learn to do without." He lied. Sleep was like sex. The less you had, the more you craved it, and Tracy Crosswhite hadn't had much of either lately.

Book Description from GoodReadsTracy Crosswhite has spent twenty years questioning the facts surrounding her sister Sarah’s disappearance and the murder trial that followed. She doesn’t believe that Edmund House — a convicted rapist and the man condemned for Sarah’s murder — is the guilty party. Motivated by the opportunity to obtain real justice, Tracy became a homicide detective with the Seattle PD and dedicated her life to tracking down killers.

When Sarah’s remains are finally discovered near their hometown in the northern Cascade mountains of Washington State, Tracy is determined to get the answers she’s been seeking. As she searches for the real killer, she unearths dark, long-kept secrets that will forever change her relationship to her past — and open the door to deadly danger.
