Our Little Secret, written in 2017, is a twisty, addictive, and compelling read with a great format. Set in the interrogation room of a police station, the main character Angela Petitjean is being questioned about a recent murder by Detective Novak (who has an intriguing connection with Angela). I loved how this room was a 'literary home base' of sorts while the dynamic bits of the story were told in flashbacks, allowing the reader to see how Angela's life has been shaped including the relationships and misadventures that lead her to be a suspect in a murder.
This shorter read packs one hell of a punch with no superfluous words or characters to bog things down. I found the ending a bit abrupt but otherwise the pacing is perfect and the plot so enticing that readers will be eager to figure out how these characters are connected and what happened to tear them apart. Angela herself is an unreliable narrator and I kind of liked her but didn't quite trust her either. That uneasiness just added to the tension. And while I'd like to say I figured it all out, I had so many theories running around in my head that it felt like it was inevitable that I'd guess correct. And yet, Nay adds a delicious twist that threw me off right at the very end. Awesome!
Smart, twisty and unputdownable, this book is a wonderful mix - a coming of age story, a love story, and a story of obsession with tension up the wazoo. It kept me on my toes as I tried to figure out what is going on - what was true, what was a lie, who I could trust and what really happened. Highly recommended.

Book Description from GoodReads: For fans of In a Dark, Dark Wood and All the Missing Girls comes Our Little Secret, a compulsive and thrilling debut about a missing woman, a tangled love triangle, the secrets we keep and the secrets we share.
The detective wants to know what happened to Saskia, as if I could just skip to the ending and all would be well. But stories begin at the beginning and some secrets have to be earned.
Angela is being held in a police interrogation room. Her ex’s wife has gone missing and Detective Novak is sure Angela knows something, despite her claim that she’s not involved.
At Novak’s prodding, Angela tells a story going back ten years, explaining how she met and fell in love with her high school friend HP. But as her past unfolds, she reveals a disconcerting love triangle and a dark, tangled web of betrayals. Is Angela a scorned ex-lover with criminal intent? Or a pawn in someone else’s revenge scheme? Who is she protecting? And why?
Twisty and suspenseful, Our Little Secret is an intense cat-and-mouse game and a riveting thriller about the lies we tell others—and ourselves.
