The Echo Man

The Echo Man is a book that lived up to its hype for me. It is a delightfully gruesome read about a murderer who imitates several notorious serial killers' most famous crimes. A truly sinister story that is not for the faint hearted (or queasy stomached), this was a 'holy cow I can't believe this is a debut' kind of read.

I went into this book with only a brief look at the blurb and basing my book selection on fellow suspense lovin' bookstagrammer (Charlotte aka morbidmama_reads)'s high praise of the book. I think going into it blind is the way to go with this book. That said, if brutal scenes of violence aren't your thang, then this won't be a good pick for you because it is a dark read and Holland does not shy away from vividly recounting the gore and violent actions of a sadistic killer.

The story also includes an interesting and flawed cast, a relentless pace and a twisty story that had me guessing and second-guessing whodunnit. My only wee beefs are the unnecessary/quick romance and the ending that was a little hard to believe.

This is a book that pulled me in immediately and didn't let go. If you love psychological thrillers with bit of police procedural and a gruesome and disturbing story that will make you rethink reading it in the dark, then I highly recommend The Echo Man. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
