A Very Merry Bromance

A Very Merry Bromance
hits the three RomCom S's - sweet, spicy, and swoony.
It is the fifth book in the popular Bromance Book Club series and features a second chance romance and two tropes:
opposites attract and Sunshine Meets Grouchy (perhaps Grinchy for this festive book).

I love the premise of this series which follows a group of men who are part of a surreptitious book club that reads romance novels to better understand the women in their lives. Each book in the series focuses on one of the men and their attempts to woo the strong women they've fallen for.

This fifth book can be read as a standalone, but I think readers will get more out of the series if you know some of the other characters in this friend group. There are a lot of characters in this series, and I hope that in the future, Adams includes a helpful couple blurb at the beginning to detail who married who and their backstories/jobs.

In this latest book, the story focuses on popular country singer, Colton Wheeler and his love interest Gretchen Winthrop, a no-nonsense non-profit immigration lawyer. These two met at a friend's wedding and spent a hot night together but Gretchen (a glass half empty gal) immediately ghosts Colton (a glass half full guy) leaving him to wonder what went wrong. Was Gretchen a bit too much of a Grinchy McScrooge at times for me? Yes, but as the story progresses, I came to understand why she pushes people away. Colton is a sweet and heart-squishy leading man who readers will adore. My favourite parts of these books are when the book club gets together - I always wish there were more of these scenes.

This isn't a Christmas heavy story. It's set around the festive season but the fa la la la la's linger in the background making this a book you could easily be read any time of year. There is a spicy scene or two and Adams once again excels at witty banter while giving some depth to her story by including bigger issues like immigration reform, family dysfunction and childhood neglect/trauma.

Light-hearted romance with a bit of depth and characters you'll miss when you finish each book. It's a great series to add to your Santa wish list.

Book Description from GoodReads'Tis the season for a Bromance Book Club matchmaking mission! This time, they're pulling out the mistletoe for everyone's favorite country music star, Colton, and his second chance at love.

Country music’s golden boy Colton Wheeler felt the most perfect harmony when he was with Gretchen Winthrop. But for her, it was a love him and leave him situation. A year later, Colton is struggling to push his music forward in a new direction. If it weren’t about to be the most magical time of year and the support of the Bromance Book Club, he’d be wallowing in self-pity.

It’s hard for immigration attorney Gretchen not to feel a little Scrooge-ish about the excess of Christmas when her clients are scrambling to afford their rent. So when her estranged, wealthy family reaches out with an offer that will allow her to better serve the community, she’s unable to say no. She just needs to convince Colton to be the new face of her family’s whiskey brand. No big deal…

Colton agrees to consider Gretchen’s offer in exchange for three dates before Christmas. With the help of the Bromance Book Club, Colton throws himself into the task of proving to her there’s a spark between them. But Gretchen and Colton will both need to overcome the ghosts of Christmas past to build a future together.
