Honeymoon For One was a freebie on Audible.ca so I snatched up a copy after reading its cute blurb. It was a very light, low spice romance that was a nice, easy listen that I could pop in and out of throughout the day.
The romance was very slowwww burn and the story had a decent premise but faltered a bit in its execution. There were so many options to make this a humorous read, but it felt like the author didn't take advantage of the comedic fodder of Lila's predicament - her wedding imploding, going on her honeymoon alone and the 'showmance' with a movie star. The characters are a decent bunch, but Allie, Lila's BFF was my favourite and brought some energy to the story.
The story relies on the fake dating trope and requires readers to A) suspend disbelief at how Lila handles two surprise guests at the resort and B) wait a long time for any kind of romantic entanglements which ended up being pretty tame. I had an issue with both aspects.
This is a light (light on romance and comedy),
predictable listen but won’t be a story that stays with me long. But it was an
enjoyable enough distraction on my commute to work and as I puttered around
cleaning my house.

Book Description from Audible.ca: When disaster strikes, paradise calls....
As a published novelist, Lila Rose has been writing about fictional weddings all her life. But disaster strikes on her own big day when she hears her philandering fiancé, Daniel, whispering sweet nothings to someone else. With her dream day shattered, all Lila wants to do is run and hide, so she decides to fly solo on her own honeymoon.
When Daniel arrives in the resort with his new squeeze, Lila strikes up a ‘showmance’ with hot new movie star Freddie Bianchi. Freddie is perfect for the part, and Lila soon relaxes into her leading lady role.
But as truth starts to merge with fiction, could real love be in the air?
A sizzling holiday romance, perfect for fans of Sophie Kinsella, Lindsey Kelk and Sophie Ranald’s Sorry Not Sorry.
