Bree has been in the role of Sheriff for only a couple of weeks but despite surviving her tragic past, it continues to haunt her. When there's a shooting at a local campground that is closed for the winter and the bodies start piling up, Bree calls in Matt Flynn and his K9 partner Brody to help her team solve the case.
There are a couple of storylines that are woven together, and I loved getting the POV of the sadistic murderer which added to the tension - as did the rage-fueled (and gruesome) murders.
Bree is the kind of main character I love. She's strong in her professional role but still adjusting to her new family situation and is awkward when it comes to her love life - which is handled with a very, very light hand. And dog lovers will enjoy this series - particularly Matt and his family's close bond with their canines - especially when it comes to hunting down bad guys.
This series has a nice blend of white-knuckle moments, important topics (grief, PTSD ...), a tense manhunt and character growth as readers witness Bree's professional and personal struggles in her new role as Sheriff and parent.

Book Description from GoodReads: Sheriff Bree Taggert is both hunter and hunted in Melinda Leigh’s blood-freezing thriller of murder, rage, and revenge.
New sheriff Bree Taggert is called to a shooting in a campground shuttered for the winter. But she arrives to find a perplexing crime. There is no shooter, no victim, and no blood. No one but Bree believes the sole witness, Alyssa, a homeless teenager who insists she saw her friend shot.
Bree calls in former deputy Matt Flynn and his K-9 to track the killer and search for Alyssa’s friend. They discover the battered corpse of a missing university student under the ice in Grey Lake—but it’s not the victim they were looking for.
When two more students go missing and additional bodies turn up, Bree must find the link between the victims. She knows only one thing for certain: the murders are fueled by rage. When Alyssa disappears, Bree must race against time to find her before her witness becomes another victim.
