Heart of the World

Title: "Heart of the World"

Author: Linda Barnes

Series Info: 11th book in the Carlotta Carlyle P.I. series

Type: Mass Market Paperback

Pages: 351

Synopsis: In this latest book in the series, Boston P.I. Carlotta Carlyle finds herself immersed in a highly personal case. Her "Little Sister" Paolina goes missing. Paolina's mother is too caught up in her new boyfriend to care enough to be worried about her 15 year old daughter. Carlotta fears that Paolina has been abducted by her biological father who is a Columbian drug lord, known as Roldan. As she follows the case the trail leads Carlotta from Boston, to Miami and finally to Columbia where she learns that life in Columbia is much different than back home.

My thoughts: I came across this book in a discussion on one of my favourite book sites - the book forum on Todaysparent.com. I was really intrigued by what the other posters were saying about the book so I thought I'd give it a try. Honestly, I didn't enjoy this book and had to push myself to finish the last half of it. At times the pace is quite fast but more often it lags quite a bit. I wasn't into the background story of the "mamas" either. It just didn't fit well with the book overall.
This is my first Carlotta Carlyle book (first book by author Linda Barnes too) so I think I may have enjoyed it more if I had more of the background info on the main characters. I don't plan on reading any more from this series.
Rating: 2.5/5 (aka meh)
